Summary:
- Topic - The State of In-Security
Advances by hackers have left us inherently insecure - today's
most popular defenses are now obsolete. Anti-virus products are
based on archaic "Black-List" methodologies that are simply no
longer an effective deterrent - AV vendors will need to develop and
deploy over 1,000,000 signatures in the next year to keep up with
the bad guys. IPS and IDS products have been completely overwhelmed
with the surge in variants of malware and are currently
ineffective. Firewalls today are port centric devices while
applications and malware will automatically use any available port
leaving the enterprise dramatically exposed. Further, firewall
vendors have failed to keep up with the number of applications
running in the enterprise and only afford protection for a fraction
of those applications found in today's enterprises. Clearly it is
time to re-evaluate our defenses, and stop the popular methodology
of buying the latest point products to address each new issue that
arises and perhaps to consider building an inherently secure
network...
This session discusses those steps necessary to build a
fundamentally secure network and step ahead of the on going arms
race with malicious hackers
